There are currently about 13,000 startups in Japan. This number is increasing every year and stems from Japan's historical strength in research and development. "Monozukuri" companies represented by SONY, Panasonic, HONDA, and TOYOTA, as well as universities and other research institutions, have underpinned Japan's R&D capabilities.In recent years, building on this strength, research and development has been conducted on themes common to all humankind, such as space, SDGs, ESG, and carbon neutrality, and startups are born to take advantage of these technologies.Furthermore, in order to accelerate these efforts, Japan has launched a national policy to support startups and has put in place a system to provide strong backup for startups.These potentials and possibilities in Japan will be explained from two perspectives: "Prime Minister's Leadership" and "Research capabilities and university startups".

Japanese startups have a great ecosystem, which is consistently valued to be higher than the global average- which also contributes to the great success seen in the country. Government intervention through strategy to improve the startup ecosystem has also seen great results for startup founders in Japan.
Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced a national policy to strengthen support for startups and build the startup ecosystem.
This is expected to lead to an ever-growing startup market in Japan under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister.
In fact, Japan has launched the The “Startup city project” to strengthen urban functions by selecting and focusing on cities with a high concentration of startups.
